ANZ NZ removes international money transfer fee to Samoa

ANZ New Zealand customers can send money from New Zealand to Samoa for free using ANZ Internet Banking or ANZ goMoney, to help the flow of funds to communities impacted by the measles crisis.

“We know the importance of remittances in the Pacific. Now more than ever, the measles outbreak has highlighted the need for locals to access money to buy important supplies,” ANZ Managing Director Retail and Business Banking Ben Kelleher said.

“Many of our New Zealand staff and customers have close friends and family in Samoa – it’s an important part of the ANZ family. Seeing what’s happened to our staff, customers and the people of the country has been devastating.”

In addition to removing the international money transfer (IMT) fee, ANZ has cut the New Zealand Dollar (NZD) to Western Samoan Tala (WST) conversion fee cost.

The change is effective until Tuesday, 7 January 2020 and applies to payments made from ANZ accounts in New Zealand to all bank accounts in Samoa.

ANZ Internet Banking and goMoney IMTs from New Zealand to Samoa are generally cleared the same day.

Last week, ANZ donated WST$100,000 (NZD$56,000) to Samoa’s National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) to support their work in the fight against measles.
